Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Internal Family Systems (IFS) t is a model of psychotherapy that combines systems thinking with the understanding that individuals have multiple “parts” or sub-personalities within themselves. According to IFS, these internal parts carry emotions, beliefs, and roles that influence a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
IFS is used to address a wide range of psychological issues, including trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties. It is often appreciated for its non-pathologizing approach, as it views symptoms as protective mechanisms developed by parts to cope with past experiences.
Kelly McBride, LCSW trained in IFS guide clients through the process of exploring their internal dynamics, fostering self-compassion, and promoting integration. Kelly McBride, LCSW approach is used in individual therapy, and variations of IFS principles may be applied in group settings as well.
